Depending on the type of injury or condition, the type of treatment applied will involve either one or a combination of the below.

Traditional Acupuncture

At Fong Acupuncture we practice Traditional Electro Acupuncture, which is the application of a pulsating electrical current to acupuncture points on the body using fine needles.

When these points are activated or stimulated by the electrodes the complaints of chronic pain which results from blockage or imbalance of Qi (pronounced ‘chi’) or illness can be alleviated.

Our belief is that a vital energy, “Qi,” (pronounced chi) flows through the body and performs multiple functions to maintain health.

Cupping

Cupping therapy is very effective for increasing circulation and assisting the body to heal.  Cupping involves the placement of plastic cups on the body, and suction is employed to draw up the skin. The cups are generally left on the body for 10-15mins when used on their own or 5-10mins when combined with acupuncture.

Cupping stimulates the flow of blood, breaks up inflammation, balances and realigns the flow of Qi, and creates an avenue for toxins to be drawn out of the body.

Cupping can be used to treat respiratory diseases such as the common cold, bronchitis and is also used on the back, neck, shoulder and other musculoskeletal conditions.

Moxibustion

Moxibusion is a type of Chinese medicine that may be helpful in turning a breech baby.  It involves burning a herb close to the skin at an Acupuncture point on the little toe to produce a warming sensation. Women who have moxibustion have it daily or as a twice weekly treatment at between 28 and 37 weeks.

FAQs

Raoul will conduct an initial consultation with you to discuss your condition, and determine the best course of treatment. Following this Raoul will apply any combination of acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion for approximately 30 minutes or more depending on the severity of the condition.

You will need to check your private health fund carrier for covered acupuncture benefits. You may find your benefits under the title “complementary alternative” treatment in your health fund booklet. Acupuncture is on the rise with more private health find companies willing to reimburse for treatments. If acupuncture is not listed under one of your benefits, I recommend enquiring with your health fund providers about how to gain coverage.
